Local Media, River Gods Regulars, Music Fans and Friends,

Torrez has got quite the schedule to fill here at the end of 2002. Saturday had them on WUNH, yesterday was an in-store at Bullmoose. Tonight they DJ and listen to their own CD, tomorrow has them live at the Middle East, and after stops in Providence and Northampton, they take over as December residents Tuesdays at Cambridge nitespot the Lizard Lounge. Are these guys in demand or what? And with good reason. In our post-ironic landscape, the swooning, shivering and soul-searching sounds of Kimberlee and Company really hits the spot. They've been compared to Mazzy Star, the Cowboy Junkies and Giant Sand, but its more subtle than those. Less invoked and more evoked. Today is their release date, and to encourage and celebrate, were having them down to River Gods to spin and soak in the big day. Breeze takes over late. The CD'll be on sale, too. A pleasant evening with band tonight at

eavesdrop.

:: November 19th, 2002: Torrez "The Evening Drag" [Kimchee]
Torrez is a word-of-mouth band. They're not about to storm the studio or dump flyers onto your sidewalk, but their sound is so fragrant and twilit that it will easily pass from friend to friend. Vocalist Kimberlee Torres lucious vocals spread from speakers, while an electic but reserved array of instruments frame its lucid effect. Coming from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Torrez has the kind of intimacy you might expect from a seaside-lounge, but all the weight and warmth of a midnight moon. The band will spin influences beforehand, while Mr. Breeze keeps his cool. Sip your beer and exhale steadily.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: Torrez
:: 10:30 :: Featured Album: Torrez "The Evening Drag" [Kimchee Records]

:: November 26th, 2002: Primal Scream "Evil Heat" The Coral "S/T" [Columbia]
We originally talked to Columbia about having a party for the new Primal Scream, but when we got wind they were also releasing the Coral CD, we were honestly floored. The Coral, highly loved in the UK, is one part Zappa, one part Beefheart and one part Sly Stone; really fascinating stuff. Bizarre and artful, but fascinating. The VP of Columbia marketing must be saying "Wha?" We'll help them out... Primal Scream continues to evolve from their Stones-y psyche roots, but with guests like Kevin Shields [My Bloody Valentine], co-producer Andrew Weatherall [Two Lone Swordsmen] and guest vocalist Kate Moss [Model], you can hardly go wrong. It worked. Amazon.co.uk calls it "Oddly fantastic" NME says "Consistanly thrilling." We'll play a little of each record on their release date. Kerry Gaertner kicks it off while our special guest closes it out. New music is essential.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: Kerry Gaertner
:: 10:30 :: Featured Albums: Primal Scream "Evil Heat" The Coral "S/T" [Columbia]
:: 11:30pm - 1am: :: TBA

TO COME +++
:: December 3rd, 2002: 23 Skidoo "The Gospel Comes To New Guinea" [Ronin] Originally released in 1981 on vinyl, sampled by Future Sounds Of London, Chemical Brothers, etc. Finally on CD. Reason to celebrate. With UFO.
:: December 10th, 2002: VA "This Is Christmas" [Eskimo Labs] Not exactly a bunch of rock bands covering hymns, but rather an original record with various references to the holidays. Certainly, Sir, Alex MacGregor, Soltero, Secrets, Helms etc. Oh yeah.
:: December 17th, 2002: Neptune "The Ballet Of Process" [Mr.] Ask anyone who's seen them and they'll tell you: Neptune rocks. Klanged-up, futureworld, artcore for the reckless. Duck.
