Hey Folks,

There is hope. Sleater-Kinney has a new album coming out and its just what you want. And just what the world needs. Over the last 6 months, we've done a lot of great records, but few have found the timing, fulfillment and attitude to really dent the Ultron of pop cluture. To that, we get the flying scissorkick of "One Beat". Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss have recruited a few of their esteemed colleagues to steam-chisel a new salvo. From the brilliant cover-art illustration down to the ripping Oh! single, One Beat could be called a "mistresspiece." Sleater-Kinney's CD is not in stores until next week, but is available NOW from the fine folks at Kill Rock Stars. Buy it, a single and a t-shirt. Buying indie music is good for the soul. To complete the night, we've recruited the rock collections of Tinobeat and NE Performer's editor, Jeff Breeze. Grab a cold one and salute punk rock's queens tonight at

eavesdrop.

:: August 13th, 2002: SLEATER-KINNEY "One Beat" [Kill Rock Stars].
There's a theory that a rock band's sixth album is the pinnacle of its form. The career achievement. With time, One Beat may become exhibit A. Its past ferocity boiled down to a dense pop core, this punk trio lets it turn black hole. Not even light can escape. We're almost certain the glowing reviews will not either. But can critical darlings, from a staunchly indie band, ever be inside suburban high school lockers? S-K asks, why not? "hey kids rock and roll
/ rock on, ooh my soul" Above all this, they play the Roxy October 14th with... the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!? Ha-chi-ma-ma. Someone better reinforce that floor. I am not kidding people! Rock DJs Jeff Breeze and Tinobeat will host the evening, and they've been able to think about this for weeks. Life is fun, isn't it?

++ NEXT WEEK ++
:: August 20th, 2002: COLDPLAY "Rush Of Blood To The Head" [Capitol Records].
"Wherefore art thou Britpop?" It one of the questions of the day. But with A&R mongrels rooting out the next Papa Roach [can you imagine?], none of the bigwigs seem to care much for thick melodic enchantment anymore. Coldplay might just change all that. In the vein of Verve, Embrace and, yes, Oasis, Coldplay does not shy away from dynamics. Yet, Chris Martin, leader and pianist, would claim this is not so. Martin's cited influences include Tom Waits and Neil Young. And his pensive songwriting mirror that. This is what you might call a dichotomy. If you wanted to... Oh, let's just say it is, shall we? For the first time, Eavesdrop lends its booth to the mighty 88.9, Emerson's WERS, and thier fearless music director Lil Debbie. For the second time, the professional cleans up the night: Jen from the Pill featuring her mammoth CD binders. Come by the only Coldplay listening party in Boston open to the public. Free CD singles for all. God save the Queen.
