Local Media, River Gods Regulars, Music Fans and Friends,

Post-punk in its many manifestations is re-entering the music realm with a vengance. What was once an overlooked addition to the genre roundtable is now essential in hindsight. One strand of post-punk mashed the dub of reggae, the attitude of punk, the technology of techno and the, well, soul of soul. What you got was fist-pumping dance music from acts like A Certain Ratio, the Pop Group, Human League and Cabaret Voltaire.

Tonight, we're rocking one of their many new torchbearers, the Northern California funk of Outhud. Their debut on the usually ambient-leaning Kranky label is going to shake things up. With comrades like the Rapture, DFA, the Gossip and Radio 4, this is a new hip movement that isn't afraid to have fun. Tenderloin returns and Sandra always in command, too. Pogo funk for political punks tonight at

eavesdrop.

:: October 29th, 2002: OUTHUD "S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D." [Kranky]
The funk patrol has an APB on Outhud. A genuine buzz band, these cats have gotten pretty far on as uberrare 7" and doing a split 10" with !!!. But this Sacramento five-piece is going to be inundated with love after their full length album drops. It's already being hailed as "The best debut of it's class in more than a decade." Molly, Phyllis, Tyler, Justin and Nic combine electronic precision with a punk sensibility for a dance-or-your-dead sound that smacks harder than a cheerleader's bubblegum. And with titles like "Dad, There's a Little Phrase Called Too Much Information" they're keeping their humor intact. Tenderloin returns to eavesdrop after a US tour with Soltero and is pulling out his funk tracks. Sandra, an eavesdrop and River Gods resident, takes us out. Above all, tonight will be a real fun night, of that you can be sure.

:: November 5th, 2002: V/A "Gemeinsam" [BPitch Control]
Gosh, since we started this thing back in March we've been looking for a reason to drop BPitch. The Berlin label is the tech-house label of choice. Their aesthetic for pop melodies, tough drop-edits and dreamy production is ace. Top shelf. BPitch Control is run by a loyal collective of artists [including the most-cool Ellen Allien] who've turned their love of fashion, pop and partying into vinyl gold. And like the title "Gemeinsam", they've done it "Together." Like the long-time eavesdrop favorite Soul Jazz was this year, look for them to get "Hot Label" in Rolling Stone in, oh, 2004. COOKIES recently profiled the label here, and has visited their base in Berlin. We've also been looking for the right record to invite Jamie [Daddy Long] to rock the decks, too. This is it. Totally hott pop techno.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: COOKIES [WZBC]
:: 10:30 Featured Album: V/A "Gemeinsam" [BPitch Control]
:: 11:30pm - 1am: :: Daddy Long [Appliance Of Science]

TO COME +++
:: November 12th, 2002: V/A "Left Bank" [Adhesive Records] On sale at decent stores and our own River Gods, Left Bank is a smashing, soft-psyche electronic compilation from right here in Boston. Pleasant and fresh.
:: November 19th, 2002: Torrez "The Evening Drag" [Kimchee] One of four releases coming the following week from the hardworking Kimchee Records. Lazy New Hamphire soul.
:: November 26th, 2002: Primal Scream "Evil Heat" The Coral "The Coral" [Columbia] Eavesdrop celebrates two gutsy releases from the UK on Columbia. The techno-fried rock of Primal Scream and the straight-up bizarre The Coral.
