Local Media, River Gods Regulars, Music Fans and
Friends,
Tonight things get simple as we welcome the duo Mr. Airplane
Man and have a glass in honor of their anticipated second album: "Moanin". An
appropriate title, as the album further manifests their cranked-up Memphis to
Chicago sound. It's always fun to have the band in the bar because they play
exactly the sort of thing that inspired them. This evening, it will be no
different. Tara [drums] and Margaret [guitar] will throw down on the decks. The
disc comes out today, and they'll even have a few on them. If you can't make it
tonight, check out their record release show at the Middle East Sept. 27th [with
DMZ], because live they Kick Out The Jams. Either way. Boston's brightest
tonight at
eavesdrop.

Tara and Margaret join us at eavesdrop to spin a mix of
influences, inspirations and incendiaries. Their latest release "Moanin,"
continues to delve and reveal a clangier, skeletal blues. In the midst of what
critics call the garage rock revival, it seems the duo's shovel-clattering sound
will not be overlooked this time. Particularly considering it comes from the
label that birthed those
Mojo
cover-stars the White Stripes. I could beat the ole "support local music"
drum, but really, lets file this one under "Hits." When we have the artist
in the house, we throw the party the day the CD goes on sale. That way you can
buy it from the band. Tonight its only $10.00. Buy it then listen to
it at full volume. Plus, Mr. Airplane manned the decks a few months back.
They do again. Spot on.

BLUE STATES "Man
Mountain" [ESL Music]
No one on Earth sports the cosmopolitan label-dude aesthetic
better than the Theivery Corporation. That's why we love them. And they know
that. The
Blue
States, on their own ESL Music label, is clearly a labor of love. Downtempo
that is supple, waveform but clocks like a track coach. Andy Dragazis combines
textured guitar, string sections and backbeats to great effect. You just
have to give it up. Dan Spurling has been honing his breaks for months on the
decks in his living room. Easy's smooth neu-electro, 70s funkrock and
instrumental hip-hop rounds out a kool evening.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: Mssr. Spurling [Improper
Bostonian]
:: 11:30pm - 1am: :: Easy [Eavesdrop, Forced
Exposure]
:: October 1st, 2002:
ROYAL TRUX "Hand Of
Glory" [Drag City] Menacing rock music originally from 1989. As the
website says: "
Hand
of Glory hails from the early years of
Royal Trux, the years that led
to their white dwarf/supernova/black hole mazasterwork,
Twin Infinitives"
Tenderloin is in the proverbial house. And Tinobeat has his proverbial back.

AMON TOBIN "Out From Out
Where" [Ninja Tune] The dark, melodic brazilified sounds of Mr. Tobin return to
blunt your soundsystem. out: October 15th
Believe us, after a few days after purchase, it will lodge itself in your
car stereo.
