As with most things in our mostly-ignored economic crisis,
electronic music has been losing sales. Some people pin this on downloading and
its new generation of music swappers. Others point to the boomers and their lack
of a context for it, leaving it continuously knocking at the major-label door.
At least part of it, though, can be simply a reining in of the output itself.
Much of dance music is fixed to a time, a trend or a city. After sales level out
and trends play out, its the quality music that people will feel compelled to
buy. Music which builds on electronic's historic shoulders and gets better
listen after listen.
Our spotlight tonight shines on a collective that seems to
get that. Adhesive Records from Boston focuses on midtempo, intricate sounds
with soul. It can funk, it can swing and it can art. DJ Chemta and
Cozmopolis
spin records, while we play the disc "Left Bank" in between. This gang will
be in the house, and the music wil be accomodating. Before the snows, come out
on to
eavesdrop.

++ TONIGHT ++
If you weight all the local press, it might
seem Boston's electronic music is nearly non-existant. Not quite true. Techno,
electro and more slow-moving ambient techno all have a real contingent up here.
From the beatbox rhymes of Edan to Hrvatski's avant sounds, from ex-pat DJ
Rupture to Soplerflo, Stewart Walker, Brynmore, Fred Giannelli... you get the
idea. Newcomer Adhesive Records has its ear in the right place. Their compiled
sounds leans towards unsettling but accessible funk tempos and delicate but beat
programming. Featuring all local acts including Hrvatski, Cozmopolis, EOSS,
Frank Heiss [aka Tube] and 11 others. They'll be dropping science
tonight.

:: November 19th, 2002: Torrez "The Evening Drag" [
Kimchee]
Torrez is a word-of-mouth band. They're not
about to storm the studio or dump flyers onto your sidewalk, but their sound is
so fragrant and twilit that it will easily pass from friend to friend. Vocalist
Kimberlee Torres lucious vocals spread from speakers, while an electic
but reserved array of instruments frame its lucid effect. Coming from
Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Torrez has the kind of intimacy you might expect from
a seaside-lounge, but all the weight and warmth of a midnight moon. The band
will spin influences beforehand, while Mr. Breeze keeps his cool. Sip your beer
and exhale steadily.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm

bunch of rock bands covering hymns, but rather an original record with various
references to the holidays. It's that time of year
