A cover-free evening of new music, corresponding disc jockeys at Boston's most particular pub. The party continues at RIVER GODS each Tuesday night. This week: DOVES. The NME review says "It's one of those rare albums that makes sense first thing in the morning but you can still yell along to when your head's exploding... Doves have just made the most uplifting/miserable album you'll hear all year. Wallow in it like a hot bath." We'll start the tap running at...

Manchester strikes back. The dark and delicious sound of DOVES [yes, it's just Doves] was born from on the "Madchester" scene of the 80s, but its dense, whorling brit rock is a fine fit for '02. The trio commands the spotlight with its fluid, minor-key melodic charm while the moist Manchester milieu dictates its artists disposition. Doves, perhaps unwittingly, follow the great Manchester acts Charlatans, Stone Roses and the Smiths in touching its Brit-pop with a modern and maudlin aire. Any fan of recent critical faves Coldplay, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or, dare I say, Radiohead will appreciate Doves.
Jen has the import vinyl of the album already, so you know she'll spin some good stuff, and with a cancellation, Easy will take the decks again, this time I'll dust off those Columbia-House late 80s/early 90s Brit rock CDs & LPs to compliment the night. I can't wait. We'll also have a free sampler for anyone who arrives, along with posters and stickers. You might also win tickets to see them June 17th at Axis with Elbow.

At the Orpheum a few weeks back, BELLE AND SEBASTIAN had the crowd clapping, swooning and singing along to their sweet jangly sound. Eavesdrop is proud to unveil their latest, a soundtrack to Todd Solondz's Storytelling. 34 minutes of B&S musical score and six new vocal tracks, it's everything you'd expect from these Scottish troubadours, and will be the perfect soundtrack to your evening.
We're happy and anxious to hear what DJ Crossword [a.k.a. Isaac Tilton] will bring to spin. His band the Secrets continues to shine, so we're sure his set will, too.
