Allrighty then,

Finally, the damp and mild day we've been waiting for. And Eavesdrop has just the album for you tonight. Willingly or not, Coldplay have laid claim to the Britpop throne as its new crown princes. Last year's Parachutes sold steadily through the year, as people subtly passed it along. Evocative melodies, integrated keyboards and that ever-chiming UK reverb made it a critical and popular success. Now the London four-piece has the unenviable task to do that again. Lo and behold, they have. A Rush Of Blood To The Head is mildly progressive, dense in its production and lovely in its lyric. A perfect sound for a finally cool summer evening. Free videos/magazines/tshirts and CDs for all courtesy of filter. Longtime voice of Emerson Radio, and now the station's music director, WERS' Lil Debbie makes her DJ debut, while accomplished DJ Jen from the Pill knows what works for people in general. London's calling tonight at...

eavesdrop.

:: August 20th, 2002: COLDPLAY "Rush Of Blood To The Head" [Capitol Records].
Early reviews on Metacritic have this new Coldplay album garnering "Universal Acclaim". Not a great sign, but certainly a good omen. It's that sophomore thing you're worried about. But this LP does have that timing, that mood, that point when a British act unknowingly strikes an American chord. How do they do that? Lil Debbie, host of the Left End at WERS 88.9, totally rocks that place. For the first time, Eavesdrop lends its booth to the mighty 88.9 and their fearless music director. For the second time, it'll be comforting to see Jen up in the booth. Her collection of British CDs is probably unmatched. Come by the only Coldplay listening party in Boston open to the public. Free CD singles / Interview discs / T-shirts / Video compilations for whomever. God save Prince William!
:: 9pm - 10:30pm: Lil Debbie [WERS]
:: 10:30 Featured Album: COLDPLAY "Rush Of Blood To The Head" [Capitol Records]. Street date: 8/27

++ NEXT WEEK ++
:: August 27th, 2002: TARWATER "Dwellers On The Threshold" [Kitty-Yo/Mute].
Along with Brazil, Ethiopia, Greece and our own, Germany is one of the most musically gifted countries on the planet. One big reason is the music expanse dubbed "Krautrock." From the tribal stylings of Can to the robotfunk of Kraftwerk, Krautrock has played a major role in influencing techno, hard rock, trance, ambient and hip-hop. All of which Deutschland still does pretty damn well [especially TECHNO]. The latest in a long lineage, TARWATER makes expansive, dub-enhanced art-pop that is both mellow and engaging. Like the Notwist, Morr Music and Blumfeld, Tarwater combines production skill with songwriting savvy. Boston-area duo Matters & Dunaway are going to share their inspirations and influences in a night of soothing head-nod fever.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm: t.b.a.
:: 10:30 Featured Album: COLDPLAY "Rush Of Blood To The Head" [Capitol Records]. Street date: 8/27
:: 11:30pm - 1am: Matters & Dunaway [theillband.com]

ADDENDUM: turns out Sleater-Kinney wasn't on the egregious cover of the revised, and quite conflicted, Rolling Stone, but the newly-revised mag did give the SK album the lead four star review. So maybe "clowns" was a little harsh. How 'bout "chumps?" "One Beat" comes out in stores today. Total rock.
