In celebration of his solo debut [which comes out today], we're having a party. Some of his fellow artists will be DJing. Like Edan and Certainly, Sir at past Eavesdrops, we're having Chris join us as well. So buy a copy and listen to it this evening at...

June 4th, 2002
From the release of Codeine's groundbreakingly quiet demo [a cover of Badfinger's "Without You"] to the clamarous finale of the New Year's "Newness Ends", CHRIS BROKAW has drummed, strummed and hummed as a member of some amazing collectives. He's even been recorded as a Marxophonist. You would agree it's long past time he lays down his own skin. On Red Cities, Brokaw's compositions spread out like a desert sunset, intense in parts but wholly cooling. Highly-regarded Chicago label Atavistic is releasing the CD, and Boston's discriminating Kimchee label is releasing the delicious red vinyl. Now on the day of its release we've got the DJs, bartenders and atmosphere to compliment its languorous mood. And with Chris being a longtime Bostonian, this night's a natural.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm: Matt Kadane [New Year, Consonant]
:: 10:30 Featured Album: CHRIS BROKAW "Red Cities" [Atavistic] Street Date: June 4th
:: 11:30pm - 1am: Winston Braman [Consonant, Fuzzy]

Anyone who affords GUIDED BY VOICES enough stumbling room soon falls hard for their earnest non-sequitur popcraft. The amazing rise of this Dayton, OH phenomenon is just the backstory to their incredibly fun music. 60s-psyche melodies, Cheap Trick aspirations and tricked-out lyricism is GBV pop... all whorling around Robert Pollard, the perpetual, manic and brilliant songsmith. We don't heistate to place their "Bee Thousand" album was one of the best of the '90s, and call it the "Sgt. Pepper's" of lo-fi. Go get that at once. Then join Casey and friends in a night of Pollard-proud revelry in anticipation of their, like, 26th album in 10 years: Universal Truths And Cycles. Another burner.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm: Tenderloin [Carlisle Sound, Secrets, Soltero]
:: 10:30 GUIDED BY VOICES "Universal Truths And Cycles" [Matador] Street Date: June 18th
:: 11:30pm - 1am: DJ Tinobeat [Secrets]

TO COME +++
June 18th, 2002: SONIC YOUTH "Murray Street" [Geffen] w/ your guest curator Casey Keenan [Tenderloin]. Street Date: June 25th. Sonic Youth salvaged these tapes from their dust-shrouded downtown NYC studio. The second in the New York City trilogy from the true originals.
June 25th, 2002: JESUS AND MARY CHAIN "21 Singles" [Rhino] street date: July 2nd w/ DJs t.b.a. Singles compilation from a singles band. Influential to say the least.
