Media, Musicians, Listeners:
A cover-free evening of new music, corresponding disc
jockeys and one interesting place. The party continues at RIVER GODS each
Tuesday night. For some reason we called it EAVESDROP, and no one's told me
differently. Here we go again:

The BEAT HAPPENING set the world on its ear. Only an
earnest trio, the Beat Happening gave the northwest, and the world, a pop
concoction that it had never quite heard before. This was 1983. 5 albums
later, they had simply inspired a record label [K], numerous off-shoots [D+, Go
Team, Halo Benders] and, incidentally, a pop revolt. The Beat
Happening box set contains all five hard-to-get full-lengths, two bonus discs, a
96-page book, catalogued artwork, 45 sleeves and many, many photos... for only
$60.00 on-line. Impressive to say the least. We'll preview the long-out-of print
rarities selections. And until 1am, we're more than happy with the return of
Gibby to Eavesdrop.

The more TRANS AM learns more about the technique of
making records, the better and better they seem to sound. Their newest
full-length, titled "TA," explodes like a fireball of tight, oscillated pop
and slamdance chops. Sliding out of the under-appreciated DC Metro since
'90, Trans Am has transformed from a well-produced adept rock project to a
neu-wave funk machine. Their last one, "Red Line," blew out the
streetlights. TA drops May 7th. Hide the kids.
