Local Media, River Gods Regulars, Music Fans and Friends,

Record stores know Amon Tobin. Whenever they're in need of a good electronic music recommendation, Tobin will always suffice. He's keep his standards [and his, um, mind] high throughout his ascending career: from Brazil to the UK to the warm confines of the mighty Ninja Tune label. His 1998 debut masterpiece Permutation echoes Carnival, British rowhouse beats and Ninja's penchant for the psychedelic. It practically defined "blunted beats" Through stereoriffic electronics and deft arrangement, his 2nd, Supermodified, was almost shockingly advanced. It seems his third album, which drops next week, ties it all together. Out From Out Where pushes the warm syncopation of bossa nova [the original drum and bass] to the hilt with modern techtronics. Dense and merciful.

++ Thanks to Ninja Tune Worldwide, we'll have free Zentertainment 2002 Ninja Tune sampler CDs for the first 50 people to arrive. Featuring Cinematic Orchestra [with Fontella Bass], Mr. Scruff, Diverse, The Herbaliser and more. Keith Pagán and Nick Follett rock the ones and twos. It's phuture phunk night at

:: October 8th, 2002: AMON TOBIN "Out From Out Where" [Ninja Tune]
Ninja Tune is one of the world's finest music labels. Only working with the most creative artists, and not tres-chic or video fodder, Coldcut's cottage label then makes the artist money and gets them noticed around the world. So their acts just concentrate on what they love: making music. It really is that simple. Mr. Tobin, then, is finest of the Ninja ambassadors: scientific, respectful and nasty. Making beats that will sound as good in 2020 as they do in 2002. Old is new again, standing on the shoulders of giants, etc. His procured, programmed wonderland unfolds once again. DJ Keith Pagán makes his debut in RG's birds-eye booth, while Nick Follett, a fine musician in his own right, works the decks out expertly with his own jazz and electronic records. Pleasing.

:: October 15th, 2002: STEREOTYP "My Sound" [G-Stone/K7]
From Paris' Hotel Costes to Swiss chateaus to the Tribeca Grand, Stefan Moerth's sound rules them all. His studio in Vienna happens to be the headquarters of the G-Stoned sound. Kruder & Dorfmeister, along with about everyone else in the eurogroove elite has seriously chilled in there. Now the engineer drops his record, and its a broken-soul/dancehall/hip-hop manifesto. With contributions from Tikiman [one of the best vocalists on the planet], Colee Royce, Cesar and more, Stereotyp bounds from the speakers. The ragga engineer strikes back. With the tried-and-true KAVALIER.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: t.b.a.
:: 10:30 Featured Album: STEREOTYP "My Sound" [G-Stone/K7]
:: 11:30pm - 1am: :: KAVALIER

TO COME +++

:: October 29th, 2002: OUTHUD "S.T.R.E.E.T. D.A.D." [Kranky] Not to worry, fire marshalls will be onhand. Brainwashed.com's Jon Whitney opens while Eavesdrop resident and WZBC's Sandra Barrett closes it out. Hott neofunk.
