Hello again,

In the current resurgence, and reselling, of rock and roll music, Detroit is playing a major part. As a self-professed city of ruins, it has housed a remarkable bevy of talent. Its existance under the shadows of the world's largest corporations is also of note. With the upcoming third annual Memorial Weekend Electronic Movement Festival around the corner, we're hosting a party for it's early punk rock heart: when MC5 and John Sinclair ruled the town, when uncompomising sound was the order of the day.

Electric Six is going a little mad. After six years of plugging away, the quintet [Dick Valentine, Rock and Roll Indian, Surge Joebot, Disco and M], has recorded a whirling, timely, intense record of garage groove, and the recognition is finally pouring in. Nicole spins to set it up, and Easy plans to close it out. Rock the Casbah later today at

eavesdrop.

:: May 13th, 2003 Electric Six Fire [Beggars]
Electric Six is from Detroit. That makes the fact that they sound like the Stooges, Funkadelic and Techno combined not a coincidence. Maybe a little Bob Seger, even. Regardless, it's some damn fine music with a real kick in the pants. You will be hearing about these guys [Check the awesome video at http://www.gaybetamax.co.uk/]. Nicole DJs with a little of all that and more. Easy can rock and funk and punk like everyone else. You heard?
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: Nicole [Forced Exposure]
:: May 13th, 2003 Electric Six Fire [Beggars]
:: 11:30pm - 1am: :: Easy [Eavesdrop]

:: May 20th, 2003 VA Idol Tryouts [Ghostly]
Ghostly International is a label that is committed to quality. So their first label compilation is good. New rock, new techno, new music from Michigan and beyond. Lately, their music has garnered rave reviews in countries like Spain, Japan and Germany. Our own American press has even been seen squeezing the independent label into its corporate mags. Their also a very sweet, well-intentioned and subtle organisation. A vertitable horn-of-plenty filled with modern, clear sound. UFO descends.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: TBA
:: May 20th, 2003 VA Idol Tryouts [Ghostly]
:: 11:30pm - 1am: :: UFO

TO COME +++
:: May 27th, 2003 Radiohead Hail To The Thief [Capitol] A band from England. They are ready to blow up in the States any day now. Jen from the Pill DJs, of course, along with Kerry Gaertner. Lots of giveaways.
:: June 3rd, 2003 Mogwai Happy Songs For Happy People [Matador] Scottish sound warriors return to escort your ears on elongated, composed and psychedelic rockscapes.
:: June 10th, 2003 Grandaddy Sumday [V2] Northern Californian space-pop sounds do you good.

ONWARD +++
:: June 17th, 2003 Alex McGregor [Eskimo Labs]
:: June 24th, 2003 Lifesavas [Quannum]

:: Music Site of the Week :: Neumu.net: Michael Goldberg is the Jann Wenner of online music journalism; an original. After Addicted to Noise and a stint with SonicNet [goddam, the Internet's kinda old, now eh?], Goldberg has marshalled an impressive crew of regular contributors and manages to output consistent quality week after week each and every day. This is lovely for them.

If you'd like to DJ any eavesdrop event, please don't hesitate to volunteer. It's rife with fame and glory.
