Ellen Allien is only one of a few pop music artists around
right now that could be called a visionary. Her label, BPitch
Control, is one of community; her sound, an elektro-popp musik,
is one of empowerment; and her style, angular flow, is one of modernity. A
perfect DJ for the party of life, BPitch Control has blown up in part via
their stylish entrance into Berlin's world-famous Love Parade.
Our album tonight, Berlinette, not only exemplifies
her devotion and connection to the city, but also lays down a blueprint for
future pop sounds. It's pulsed, plump, emotionally crisp and sung in
both English and German [there's not much of a difference, after all]. It's
wake is littered with guitars, strings, chimes, broked beats and cut-up
funk. And despite its modernity, it is original and fun. Needless to say,
we love her, and you will too. We also have copies of the CD
and keen small posters to give out.
Now DJs: Our beloved resident COOKIES may be making her final
east-coast in a while, we'll have her back as soon as we can. Plus
this record has her well-informed seal of approval all over it. Thanks for
everything, T. UFO is the man of the hour, cradling a stack of fresh wax. Enough
thype, celebrate spring sprung tonight at
eavesdrop.

Allien Berlinette [bpitchcontrol]
Some people say electronic music lacks
personality. Allien more than makes up for it. With a style like Maxine Headroom
and a sound like Neu Nico, its got subcultures worldwide fixated. With lyrics
like "Need a planet without cars and wars / No wars / No cars / No wars / No
Cars / I wish it could be true" fluttering over guitar and beats, its sooo hard
to resist her. She lists her fonts on her web jacket [here], she drops sounds all over Europe
and is a fantastic intact personality. As we lamented the passing of the
great visionary Nina Simone yesterday, we thought it appropriate we were doing
this record tonight. It's the
kind of record that makes you feel like you're living in 2003, but you like
it. Our DJs, COOKIES and UFO, complement the sound. We're lamenting COOKIES
move, too.

Fourtet Rounds
[Domino]
We're hoping the recent success of Domino's Clinic will rub off on
the incredible sounds of Fourtet. Just one man [Kieran Hebden], Fourtet is
a beat-driven, funky symptronic wonderland so fresh and cool you're
guaranteed to have people ask "What is this?" when you play it. His regular
three-piece, Fridge, is enough of a sound, but this project lets his inner
record collector decide what sound will be next. Lush but powerful,
Rounds goes places other beatmakers should, more psyche but
spiked with funk beats. The DJs'll be on the money. We're working on it
:)
