Local Media, River Gods Regulars, Music Fans and Friends,

So first off, big ups to the folks at the Boston Globe and especially Kimberly Atkins for giving us a large amount of column inches last Thursday [here]. We're more than happy to be acknowledged for our contribution to Boston nite life. Thanks.

Tonight is an easy night. Yo La Tengo, probably the most consistent American band still in action, releases the divine Summer Sun next week. The trio: Georgia, Ira and James, have developed such a sound as to be impenetrable. Lately, their sound has morphed into a sparse, supple sound. Gorgeous and soothing as a day at the beach. Appropriately, their latest is Summer Sun, and we'll have some beachballs and whatnot to giveaway. Immeasurable thanks to their long-time label, another consistent in the music business, Matador Records.

Our DJs: Alex McGregor, solo artist extraordinaire and sometime member of many local acts, and Tinobeat, another purveyor of Boston's new pop underground. It'll be chilled tonight at

eavesdrop.

 :: April 8th, 2003 Yo La Tengo Summer Sun [Matador]
There is an argument to be made that Yo La Tengo is, currently, the greatest American band we have. Coming up on their 20th year, this trio has a lovely, well-defined sound, has managed to stay independent and true and has spawned a whole garden of followers and devotees, not to mention given space to a host of bands themselves. Their 10th release, Summer Sun, further colors their masterful career, easing back into the slow pacing of the lauded And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out. Beatific and beautiful. Our DJs, Alex and Martin, make pretty fine music themselves, and will share their collections tonight. Bonus.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: Alex McGregor [Eskimo Laboratories]
:: April 8th, 2003 Yo La Tengo Summer Sun [Matador]
:: 11:30pm - 1am: :: Tinobeat [Papercities.org]

:: April 8th, 2003 Nobukazu Takemura Songbook [Bubblecore]
Japanese masta Nobukazu Takemura is intent on producing as much music as he can, and that we honor here tonight. From his abstract electronic compositions to his Child's View moniker and it's lambent melodic pop sweetness, the man is one colossal talent. Tonight, Takemura's melodic pop takes center stage. Songbook is the latest of his productions, featuring a lovely full band and enough poptimism to make you forget the recent struggles of the world. Alexandra from WZBC's delightful Friday mornings puts us in the mood and Brian takes us into the night.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: Alexandra [Melody du Jour]
:: April 8th, 2003 Nobukazu Takemura Songbook [Bubblecore]
:: 11:30pm - 1am: :: Brian [The Delta Factor; WZBC]

:: Music Site of the Week :: ZBC Online: For decades now, the world has envied our claim to WZBC. While no radio station can please everyone, WZBC is as close to great radio as a college station can get. It is recognized the world over for its commitment to new sounds. The recent edition of Democracy Now! at noon did not hurt their reputation. If you have yet to tune that preset to WZBC, put it on 90.3fm and hold down for 5 seconds. You'll be glad you did.
