For the first time in Eavesdrop's existence, we feature the
same act. February 26th, 2002 we played host to a party for a new 12" and 7".
This time, it's the new full-length title from ADULT. Nicola [vox, art] and Adam
[programs] continue to support our theory that Detroit is the finest musical
city on the planet with their funky, minimal electronic punk sound. [For a nice
breather, check their totally awesome interview by a
six-year old
here].
Their debut,
Resuscitation, positively swept the
nation a few years back. Since, they've toured extensively, done remixes for a
gallimaufry of acts [the Faint, Death In Vegas, Fischerspooner, Bis, etc.] and
stayed true to the real Electro sound the whole time. Now, with
Anxiety
Always, the duo will prove they're here to stay. Our DJs: ADULT.'s Boston
companion and eavesdrop resident COOKIES [
WZBC] and Daddy Long,
the masta of disasta from
Appliance Of
Science.
Coincidentally, last week's featured local title, Soltero's
Defrocked And Kicking The Habit was just picked up this week for
national distribution by venerable distro/mail-order house

ADULT. is about
to blow the doors off of the new electro sound, for the new ADULT. release
is punk as hell. ADULT. is composed of only two people: Adam Lee Miller, Ersatz
label partner, and Nicola Kuperus, artiste extraordinaire. It is quite clear
ADULT. do not care what you think. For example, they have asked all reference to
ADULT. be printed as such: ADULT. Now, that, ladies and gentlemen, is punk. The
music? Total funk punk mayhem, bomb-the-bass reverso dance, jolt-inducing
crankshaft fashionpetrol. Two geniuses take the decks... You comin or
what?

:: April 8th, 2003 Yo La Tengo
Summer Sun [
Matador]
There is an
argument to be made that Yo La Tengo is, currently, the greatest American
band we have. Coming up on their 20th year, this trio has a lovely, well-defined
sound, has managed to stay independent and true and has spawned a whole garden
of followers and devotees, not to mention given space to a host of bands
themselves. Their 10th release,
Summer Sun, further colors their
masterful career, easing back into the slow pacing of the lauded
And Then
Nothing Turned Itself Inside Out. Beatific and beautiful. Our DJs, Alex and
Martin, make pretty fine music themselves, and will share their collections
tonight. Bonus.
:: Music Site of the Week :: NEPTUNE RECORDS The finest
of the Detroit-area record stores [and a long-time supporter of ADULT.], this
Royal Oak mecca has a luscious email newsletter and a freshly-designed site. One
of numerous US indie stores that is more than fit enough to survive the
impending collapse of the music business. Bookmark and check back often. And
maybe, just maybe, submit an order.
