As soon a Larry Tee had pressed up his compilation of NYC new
punk disco dance music, a collection called "Electroclash," someone alerted the
exploitation fire department. To skeptics of the scene, including many
instigators of the same scene, this simply would not stand. What may not be
included in the buzzword is the invisible history that goes with the scene,
something we think Larry T more than understands. And that history is
producing much more than the artists he represents. New techno, punk
disco and cutting-edge hip-hop are also representing [see also "Negroclash"].
People have certainly noticed Mr. Tee, though, and
even the most hegemonic US dance label, Moonshine, has recognized the
marketability of Electroclash [their Larry T mix is out March 25th]. We'll
see where this goes, but right now W.I.T. represent the culmination of this
capitalization, and it will illicit reactions around the globe. It has little to
do with all this rumination, and everything to do with fun. Our DJs, Dali and
Sandra, have fun better than anyone we know. And SLC MHz has experience
throwing a party. Don't miss tonight's
eavesdrop.

There is a lot more to W.I.T. than meets the eye. Or not. Maybe. This
is a common thought from music journalists when trying to dissect
W.I.T. And that is just where Christine, Melissa and Mandy want you to
start. The Electroclash moniker really only applies to its eponymous titles
from Mogul Electro, and that's where Larry T wants you to start. These immovable
forces collide with Dali [kicking beats], Sandra Barrett [international
style] and SLC MHz [line judge] as your officiating crew.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: Dali Colorado

:: March 11th, 2003 Libertines
Up The Bracket [
Rough Trade]
We're hopeful snarling, political, rusted punk rock will resume its
rightful place atop the parent-scaring set. The Libertines are the latest
attempt, from the legendary and independent UK-based label Rough Trade.
It's ugly and unconcerned, but stacked with enough hooks to charm the pants off
you. Joining us in this charming is David Virr, host of Boston's longest-running
rock radio programme and Arto from the Mishima USA band. Rough Trade spreads the
love, too.
:: 9pm
- 10:30pm :: David Virr [British
Accents]
:: March 18th, 2003 Rob
Satyred Love [Chevauchee /
Source]
We are shocked this album was even made. The 80s maxxed out on
production-value in music, Rob understands this. Really, we are SHOCKED. Easy
makes it all better.
:: March 25th, 2003 Soltero
Defrocked And Kicking The Habit [
Handsome]
Heroes of rock return home to a record release. They stayed overnight in a
sniper-panicked DC. Their white touring van didn't make things easier. The rock
band takes over River Gods.
Independent Detroit duo makes the most-anticipated follow-up of
2003. Also the title of the year. With Cookies and Daddy Long from the
Appliance Of Science.
:: Music Site of the Week :: Paxahau An incredible site.
While the size of music files has made it the medium
most susceptible to the Internet's convenience, so also has its embrace of
technology. DJ sets, the sequencing of these smaller "files" into an aesthetic
or rhythmic patterns is one key to music's commercial survival. Like movies, it
should be heard in an appropriate venue [preferably one with dynamite sound]
and, like video games, it thrives on stimulation. Paxahau hosts many incredible
sets from the luminaries of dance music, playing music they or their friends
have created. Dance music will be embraced by the US music industry, whether it
likes it or not. Glimpse the future at Paxahau.
River Gods is
located a small jaunt of the Central Square T. A completely unique, varied
environment where the staff actually likes what it does, the friendly confines
of 125 River St. is a real mellow and transporting place. And they
have fantastic food until 10. The DJ booth is always occupied after 9pm,
and there are DJs and events 7 nights a week.
And it's always free. The
