Local Media, River Gods Regulars, Music Fans and Friends,

After the demise of our record store, we thought it was only a matter of time before eavesdrop wilted away, too. But thanks to you, the music fan [and the folks at our own R.G.], we've made it a whole year. In typical eavesdrop style, we're not making too big a deal about it. But Virgin Records and WERS have stepped in to help us party, and easy will take the decks to drop some favorite party jams. Massive Attack will more than fill our credentials: 100th Window is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Giveaways from Virgin will be plentiful. This is the sentence where we suggest you come down early. And here, we express hope to see some familiar friends.

So tonight we're celebrating you, the music and the space. Toast yourself, as we complete one year of

eavesdrop.

:: February 4th, 2003 Massive Attack 100th Window [Virgin]
Eavesdrop started a year ago with the Boards Of Canada, 2002's most anticipated record. 100th Window is 2003's. Five years gone, the Bristol Boys return. A trio that started off in the now legendary Wild Bunch sound system, they've housed Tricky, Portishead, composer Craig Armstrong, Tracey Thorn, Elizabeth Frazer, Madonna, Garbage, Mad Professor... well, it's likely they invented the "trip hop" genre. The uncut funk. Stealthy and stunning. Also our 1st Anniversary party. Plenty of giveaways courtesy of Virgin Records. With WERS' Revolutions program going pro and eavesdrop founder Easy playing late. Stay up a little later.

:: February 11th, 2003 Cat Power You Are Free [Matador]
Charlen-Marie "Chan" Marshall is one of the most idiosyncratic musicians of our time. Her music and style has made a huge impact in the most independent pockets of the world, yet she herself is reclusive and reluctant. From humble beginnings around the South, Marshall's created three albums of poignant power and lyrical dexterity. Her talent falls somewhere between Leonard Cohen and Francoise Hardy, and her career has just begun. You Are Free is her fourth original album, and with guests Eddie Vedder and Dave Grohl, its clear she demands the attention of her peers. A release that solidifies her as one of our finest. Paula makes her debut on the decks, giveaways galore.
:: 9pm - 10:30pm :: Paula Crossfield [Robot Slingshot]
:: 10:30 :: February 11th, 2003 Cat Power You Are Free [Matador]

:: Music Site of the Week :: Other Music: These guys are some of the most gracious music fans in the USA. Sure, they can seem elitist, but they're really in it to get the great unknown music out there. You can trust us on that. Order something from them and you'll soon be an OM convert. One of the best email updates in the world, too.
