We've planned a stellar line-up of parties to coincide with
the new release season that fast approaches. If everything goes according to
plan, Massive Attack, Fischerspooner, the Sea And Cake, Cat Power, Kid Koala and
more will all be featured in the coming months. But tonight, we picked a real
fresh underground gem for you to feast your ears on. As techno embraces melody
and refrain, it has come into its own as an Electroclash pop beast. Rework, a
trio from Stuttgart via Hungary and France, plans to truly take this idea past
the trappings of nostalgia and into a shimmering new world.
Plus if you missed the final farewell of the appliance of science, tonight
is a good night to pay your respects. A longstanding member of Saturday night
Cambridge-style, TAOS hosted brilliant electronic performances, skratching folk
and real goddam DJs for two years straight over on Mass Ave. Two of
their residents grace the decks tonight.
In addition, with our considerable effort putting together a New Year's
Eavesdrop [which was smashing we must admit], we've had no time to promote this
week, so things should be relatively tame tonight. A perfect chance to
relax. Thanks, by the way, to all who came out for NYE. You made it
happen. Now let's commence with another year of
eavesdrop.

++ TONIGHT ++
Start with Playhouse. About five years old, a quality
techno/electro label that has fast become a providor of choice DJ kuts [think
Sam The Butcher]. Then you have the electro renaissance. Now burdened with the
ElectroClash moniker, Electro has always stood beside Techno as an historic
sound. Like, hip-hop, in part, was born of Electro. Now bring the two together.
Incendiary comes to mind. In step with the consistant sounds of Fischerspooner,
Ladytron, Miss Kittin and the recent Tok Tok vs. Soffy O, Rework starts a new
backdraft. The fine-tuned sounds of Detroit/Berlin dance music meets the
irrepressible pop lyricism of Pairs/London. The jist here is: it sounds
fresh and clean. Music made for 2003. Currently, the lead single "You're So
Just Just" is seismic in clubs all thru Europe. Seismic.
Joining River Gods are two of Cambridge's finest
electronic DJs [and that is no lie, people]. Heemin and Jamie of TAOS U.
["rescuing clubland from itself"] expertly mix new electronic music. '03 is
here. Hoo-ray.

:: January 14th, 2003: The Sea
And Cake "One Bedroom" [Thrill
Jockey]
There is such a devotion of these four from Chicago, it's past cult-like
status. And deservingly so. Ten years of sweet, beloved, jazz-enhanced pop will
do that for you. The Sea and Cake are: percussive mastermind and producer John
McEntire, broken-tenor vocalist Sam Prekop, Coctails talent and Sof' Boy
illustrator Archer Prewitt, and Shrimp Boat bassist Eric Claridge. A preciously
unique combo that many fans devote their ears to nightly. We're sure most of
them have heard this career-crowning jewel already, but it's official
release is still a week away. And the packaging and sequencing makes the
disque. DJ Rocco from ace local act Soltero plays smooth sounds while Tinobeat
follows. A sumptuous evening.

this Bristol trio. From the Wild Bunch to Tricky to Portishead to Bjork,
they all know M.A. = authenticity.
